A Gentle Way to Tackle Potty Training

Potty Giraffe turns potty training into a positive, encouraging experience through rhyme, art, and imagination—created by a parent, for parents.

Drew MacKenzie

Author of the Potty Giraffe © book

I wrote the poem for this book when we were potty training my son. I looked for creative ways to help him engage and succeed in his mission to potty self sufficiency. We have always loved giraffes for their regal bearing, gentleness, huge long necked bodies and their loving, kind eyes. I used stock photos as illustrations for the original uses and found that it resonated with my son. Years later, after the success and sale of my of my surgical drill manufacturing business to a multinational medical surgical company I decided to have a good friend of mine,  Bryce Myers, to do paintings for each frame of the the book in his wonderful and whimsical painting style. Bryce is a wonderful  local Hawaiian artist who  trained at the Laguna School of Fine Arts where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and his Masters of Fine Arts at the California State University in Fullerton, California. Bryce now teaches fine arts at the Windward Community College in Kaneohe on Oahu in Hawaii. He undertook the mission with his usual enthusiasm and creativity and created masterpieces in acrylics for the book which were digitally mastered and used in the book.

Giraffes are wonderful creatures but are endangered in the wild which is why I support a non profit organization that focuses on providing safe giraffe habitats called “Save Giraffes NOW©" They relocate and care for endangered giraffes when needed and are a wonderful organization whose only focus is on saving giraffes and preserving their habitat as shown on National Geographic’s “The Long Journey Hom©"
